Tech Explorer
A structured, year-long curriculum (35 hours) for students in Grades 5–9 enrolled in the STEM Innovation Lab.
Course structure & modules
- Module 1 — Basics of Electronics
Circuit fundamentals, components (resistors, LEDs, switches), breadboarding and safe hands-on practice. - Module 2 — Essential Tools & Prototyping
Tinkering tools, solderless prototyping and a first look at sensors and actuators used in everyday devices. - Module 3 — 3D Design, Printing & Robotics
Simple 3D modelling, basic printing workflows and robotics fundamentals (motors, chassis, and simple mechanisms). - Plus — Scratch (Block-based programming)
Block programming with Scratch to create animations, interactive stories and beginner games — building computational thinking and creativity.
All modules are project-led so learners finish with working prototypes and practical skills they can reuse and extend.
Ideal for
Learners in Grades 5–9 who want a practical, playful introduction to electronics, making and coding.
Learning outcomes
- Understand common electronic components and safe workshop practices
- Build interactive prototypes with sensors and actuators
- Create animations and games using Scratch
- Design and 3D-print a simple prototype
Tech Builder
Planned for Grades 6–9, Tech Builder advances students into physical computing with Arduino and introduces practical AI concepts through hands-on activities.
Planned modules
- Physical Computing with Arduino
Microcontroller fundamentals, sensor & actuator interfacing, and C/C++ basics applied to real projects. - Project Development & Debugging
Project planning, iterative testing and practical debugging techniques for hardware and software. - AI Basics (Hands-on)
Simple activities introducing pattern recognition, basic ML concepts and how AI can be integrated with physical systems.
Tech Builder is designed to move learners from prototyping to more robust multi-component projects that combine hardware and software intelligence.
Who should join
Students who have completed Level 1 (or equivalent) and want deeper experience with microcontrollers, programming and beginner AI.
Expected outcomes
- Write programs for Arduino and apply C/C++ basics
- Build projects combining sensors, actuators and logic
- Apply simple AI ideas to sensor data and prototype intelligent behaviours
